Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, HATCHERY ARTS will develop the abilities of an active and engaged board to effectively manage our organization through this stage of growth.

As a part of this effort, we will…

* Develop an operating structure for the board.
* Define roles and responsibilities within the board itself.
* Create outlets for the board to perform community outreach.
* Determine protocols for how the board works with staff leadership.

Organization Summary

Hollywood Fringe presents the Hollywood Fringe Festival annually: an open-access, community-derived event celebrating freedom of expression and collaboration in the performing arts community. During each festival, the arts infiltrate the Hollywood neighborhood: Fully equipped theaters, parks, clubs, churches, restaurants, and other unexpected places host hundreds of productions by local, national, and international arts companies and independent performers.

Participation in Hollywood Fringe is completely open and uncensored. This free-for-all approach underlines the festival’s mission to be a platform for artists without the barrier of a curating body. Hollywood Fringe is dedicated to promoting growth, community, and collaboration through an expansive mission to champion artists and challenge the growth of established performers.

The Hollywood Fringe Festival boasts a positive economic impact not only for the businesses in the Hollywood community but also for artists of all kinds within Los Angeles. Since 2010 the festival has returned over $5 million dollars to the artists’ community.

Through the festival, HFF provides artist funding. Created in 2016, the Fringe Scholarships Program supports first-time Hollywood Fringe producers who contribute to the BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), disabled, d/Deaf, and/or blind diversity of the Fringe community. Each scholarship includes free registration, a stipend towards venue and production costs, and a Fringe mentor (an experienced producer who helps guide through the Fringe process).

Created in 2021, the Fringe Artist Fund supports low-income local artists who are participating in the festival. Artist Fund recipients receive a $500 stipend and are selected randomly from all eligible applicants.

HFF acts as a training ground for artists to become their own producers and business liaisons. HFF partners with local producers and arts organizations to provide year-round creative and producing workshops for artists. These workshops educate early-career artists on how to successfully self-produce and manage a theatrical production.
