With Support from the California Arts Council, Hip Hop For Change Inc will partner with East Bay Regional Park District (EBRPD) to curate one-week camps in Summer 2019 and Spring 2020 for majority Black and Brown adolescents who rarely experience nature. Together, HH4C and EBRPD will design a program for naturalists and Hip Hop educators to provide full-day learning workshops consisting of the five elements of Hip Hop and the correlation of each element with nature.
By instilling the positive principles of Hip Hop: Peace, Love, Unity, and having Fun, HH4C has generated expressive and experiential programs to empower our local Bay Area community.
Our Education Department breaks down barriers between youth and justice issues that affect their lives and communities using Hip hop as a vehicle. We offer several programs and workshops, teaching the history, principles, and the artistic expression of Hip Hop Culture nationwide. In addition, our education department gives youth opportunities to healthy coping mechanisms through these new practices for positive introspection and expression. Over 28,000 students, grades K-12, have experienced our curricula, while around half of our programming has been provided free of charge to under-resourced institutions. In addition, our education department hires Hip Hop artists within our community, training them in trauma-informed care to better serve our youth.
HH4C’s educational curriculum has reached over 26,000 students nationally, through the facilitation of Hip Hop lectures and camps catered toward BIPOC youth. Examples of our educational programs include: THE MC: Theory of Hip Hop Evolution, a five-part experimental K-12 curriculum that details the history and social impact, of Hip Hop; and Agents of Change, a week-long naturalist camp in partnership with East Bay Regional Parks District that functions to increase environmental access for marginalized youth.
Our grassroots program serves as an employee development program, training people from our community to become grassroots activists. Our team engages in daily conversations locally to foster cross-cultural dialogue in affluent neighborhoods and involve the general public in social advocacy.
Our events department works on planning and executing community events that amplify local artists and youth voices by providing them with a platform to share their music and artwork.
