Handful Players, founded in 2007, is a community based nonprofit organization utilizing Performing Arts Education for underserved youth and their families, in San Francisco’s Western Addition. Our purpose is to use the vehicle of year-round, curriculum-based Performing Arts Education to promote inclusion, build life skills, enhance a sense of self, and develop leadership skills and positive potential to address disparities in the life course of underserved, at-risk children. This work remains critical as the Western Addition faces violent crime, lacks traditional mentorship and has little exposure to cultural activities. The active involvement of artists, educators, a strategic Board and community partners provides free and inclusive access to high quality performing arts education, including acting, singing, dancing, writing, spoken word, clowning and puppetry, in a safe and positive environment and helps youth discover their own creative voices and a path toward an enriched life.
