Project Description

Give a Beat’s mission is to use the power of music as a pathway to healing and opportunity for those impacted by the criminal justice system.

We are a grassroots non-profit founded in 2014 that serves as a catalyst for social change by bridging the music industry with people impacted by incarceration, social injustice, and violence. Through workshops in electronic music creation, production and performance, Give a Beat supports individuals’ holistic well-being and provides a platform for personal transformation. We envision a community united by peace, love, compassion, and understanding (the values embodied in electronic music culture) and a restoration of dignity, hope, and equity to those who have experienced injustice, ultimately shifting power to undermine systemic racism and economic oppression.

Through music education and mentoring programs in juvenile halls, schools, our Prison Electronic Music Program, and our On a New Track Reentry Mentoring Program, we engage our music industry to help widen the pathways for people to thrive, encourage empathy, reduce recidivism, and unite to contribute to the larger transformation of the criminal justice system.
