The mission of Girls Athletic Leadership School Los Angeles (GALS LA) is to provide a rigorous, college-preparatory education for middle school girls in Los Angeles County. GALS LA also provides after school programming including performance arts. GALS LA serves a high need population as demonstrated by the fact that 88% of our students qualify for the federal free and reduced lunch program. Our student population is highly diverse and 96% of our students are of color. The purpose of GALS is to provide a safe space for girls to realize their full potential. GALS LA address gaps: the gender poverty gap whereby women suffer higher rates of poverty, wage gap whereby women earn less than men and the STEM gap whereby women are underrepresented in higher paying technical jobs.
