Project Description
With support from the California Arts Council, Genryu Arts Japantown Arts Reset project featuring: Japan Day, a free all-day festival of Japanese cultural arts performances, and demonstrations at Japantown’s Peace Plaza, and virtually with the Asian Art Museum. Japan Week’s free public cultural arts workshops.Children’s Day festival with taiko performance.
Organization Summary
In its 29th year GenRyu Arts has served over 1,500,000 people from the Asian American and multiracial community of the San Francisco Bay Area through:
-Performances at public events and festivals by its professional ensemble featuring traditional works and contemporary interdisciplinary collaborations
-Studio Gen, a pop-up art space that features exhibitions, cultural workshops, and artist dialogues currently located in the Japan Center East Mall
– A Japantown-based Taiko and Dance school.
-School-site residencies and assembly performances.
