With support from the California Arts Council, Genryu Arts will 2018-19 Japantown Arts Engagement Initiative featuring: 1) Japan
Day Festival 2) Hands on workshops and lecture demonstrations leading up to Japan Day. 3) Annual Spring Break taiko (drum) and shamisen
(lute) intensive workshops. 4) Annual Children’s Day Festival performances
In its 29th year GenRyu Arts has served over 1,500,000 people from the Asian American and multiracial community of the San Francisco Bay Area through:
-Performances at public events and festivals by its professional ensemble featuring traditional works and contemporary interdisciplinary collaborations
-Studio Gen, a pop-up art space that features exhibitions, cultural workshops, and artist dialogues currently located in the Japan Center East Mall
– A Japantown-based Taiko and Dance school.
-School-site residencies and assembly performances.
