With support from the California Arts Council, Genryu Arts will implement a 32 week long residency, 3 hours/week, for 3rd, 4th and 5th graders (105 students) at Clarendon Alternative School (SFUSD) Japanese Bilingual Bicultural Program. Funds will be used to support the teaching artist Melody Takata, guest artist fees for 3 weeks, project admin, and materials. In this coming year we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary in residency there.
In its 29th year GenRyu Arts has served over 1,500,000 people from the Asian American and multiracial community of the San Francisco Bay Area through:
-Performances at public events and festivals by its professional ensemble featuring traditional works and contemporary interdisciplinary collaborations
-Studio Gen, a pop-up art space that features exhibitions, cultural workshops, and artist dialogues currently located in the Japan Center East Mall
– A Japantown-based Taiko and Dance school.
-School-site residencies and assembly performances.
