With support from the California Arts Council, Friends Outside in Los Angeles County will continue their collaboration with TheatreWorkers Project by providing increased opportunities for the formerly incarcerated and those on work release to redefine their personal narratives through theatre. Dads Back! Academy members’ participation in extended theatre, movement, and writing workshops will culminate in the creation of a performance piece presented to peers, at-risk youth, and the public.
Friends Outside in Los Angeles County’s programs and services include after-school groups, employment assistance, fatherhood services, counseling/support groups, case management/peer navigation, family communications support, linkages, emergency supplies, and alternative sentencing. Services are provided from community-and jail-based offices across Los Angeles County, including in Pasadena, Los Angeles, Inglewood, and Watts. Service sites include locations such as an elementary school, a community college, a faith-based location, and co-locations in two of America’s Job Centers of California.
