With support from the California Arts Council, Friction Quartet will work together with Jericha Senyak Consulting to gain formal training in financial literacy, budgeting, and financial planning for non-profit organizations. With this training they will be able to improve their financial system and move towards non-profit status with proper accounting procedures and a complete understanding of the financial best practices of arts organizations.
Friction Quartet is a performing arts group based in the Bay Area. They regularly perform concerts around the globe.
Since forming in 2011, Friction has commissioned 43 works for string quartet and given world premiere performances of more than 80 works. Their recent commissions include six works by young composers between the ages of 16 and 22.
With the help of grant support from InterMusic SF they are developing an educational program with composer Danny Clay that is designed to be accessible and sensory-friendly.
Friction Quartet is dedicated to building new audiences for contemporary music through interactive musical enrichment programs. They are participating for the third consecutive year in the San Francisco Symphony’s Adventures in Music program, visiting over 60 public schools annually. They are Ensemble Partners with Young Composers & Improvisors Workshop, and have also given presentations at Oakland public schools through KDFC’s Playground Pop Up program.
