FACT/SF believes that civic life is made more vibrant by the contributions of dance artists, and that robust and equitable arts ecosystems enable artists to work at their greatest potential. The dance field continues to prohibit the full participation of BIPOC and LGBTQ+ people, so we prioritize their inclusion across all of our programming. Within this context, FACT/SF collaboratively creates dance performances for the public, employs and advocates for ethical work practices, and offers programs that fortify dance artists in their work.
FACT/SF is: 1. a dance company that hires and compensates Bay Area artists, 2. a platform for producing contemporary dances choreographed by Charles Slender-White (Artistic Director), 3. a vehicle for offering cutting-edge dance training to students and working professionals both locally and abroad, 4. a provider of services for the larger dance ecosystem, and 5. an organizer, creator, and promoter of accessible arts events which bring people together in order to build social cohesion and community.
FACT/SF works towards creating a world in which artists are appropriately compensated, where audiences have access to performances, and where art is valued as an integral part of society. In order to pursue these goals, FACT/SF: gives its own artists raises every year, keeps ticket prices low, offers training programs to help dancers develop their talents, provides support services for choreographers mounting their own productions, publishes about artistic process and purpose, and facilitates conversation between artists and the general public.
