With support from the California Arts Council, Explore Ecology will teach a natural dye series at four school garden sites throughout Santa Barbara county. Students will learn the historical and cultural context for natural dye while learning the skill, and will be taught weaving and other fiber skills to create with their hand dyed materials. Arts education will be literally interwoven within the garden education programming that Explore Ecology is providing throughout Santa Barbara county.
Explore Ecology is an environmental education and arts nonprofit serving all of Santa Barbara County. By developing multiple strategies, Explore Ecology educators interact with students more than 100,000 times annually with programs including Watershed Education, School Gardens, Waste Reduction, and Creative Exploration. With hands-on programming that combines art and ecology, we foster creative thinking and connection between children and the environment in our Art From Scrap Creative ReUse Store and EE Makerspace, at the Watershed Resource Center, with Environmental Education in classrooms and on field trips, and in our School Gardens program.
