With support from the California Arts Council, Embodiment Project (EP) will collaborate with The Ahimsa Collective’s group of previously incarcerated individuals to produce a free 2-night run of a multidisciplinary hip hop dance theater production Paradox of Harm and Healing (working title). The work will be performed by the previously incarcerated participants and will serve more than 400 community members at Destiny Arts Center in Oakland and in juvenile detention centers in the Bay Area.
Embodiment Project’s year-round activities include street dance classes for youth and adults; workshops and conversations about hip hop histories; and annual performances of new evening-length works performed in both San Francisco and Oakland in order to reach broad audiences throughout the Bay Area. Our communities served include dance audiences, Bay Area POC communities, street dance enthusiasts, and youth.
