With support from the CAC, Ektaa Center will produce ‘Celebrate Comm-Unity’- a 15th Ektaa anniversary community celebration from June 2019 thru June 2020 showcasing the diverse performing art forms and cultural practices of India. Events include the Ektaa Fest, Diwali Fest and Ragaspirit, three marquee productions that will contribute to the cultural landscape of Orange County and will feature the best local talent as well as Master Artistes.
Ektaa Center started the first Center in S. California devoted to educating the public about the arts and cultures of India. This is accomplished through diverse classes, activities and events. We provide opportunities to people of all ages and racial backgrounds to learn and experience music, dance and related arts as well as unique cultural aspects of India. This also serves an important community need to preserve the ancient traditional arts which have been passed on through generations.
Besides the Arts and Cultural Center, The Ektaa Center produces and presents events at public venues featuring local and visiting performing artists. We partner with community presenters, other Indian community organizations and local governmental agencies to accomplish mutually beneficial goals. Over the last decade we have developed annual festivals that have attracted diverse audiences and become marquee cultural events recognized by the Community, County and City governments.
The Orange County and the Irvine Metropolitan areas have seen almost a doubling of Asian population, particularly Asian Indians, since the early 2000’s. Ektaa Center has served as the hub for cultural activity and aggregator for many of the sub communities as well as representative of the minority community of Asian Indians in the area. At the same time we continually strive to connect and collaborate with the broader cultural landscape and foster racial equity and inclusion.
