With support from the Arts Council, DRAMADOGS, A Theater Company will create a curriculum of performing-arts based programming to present in alignment with the Santa Barbara Public Library’s Social Justice Book Club. These exercises will culminate with the creation of an original theater piece exploring the themes of the presented literature to address issues that impact our community, such as immigration, gender and sexuality, artistic expression, and family dynamics.
DramaDogs crafts challenging theatrical productions and workshops that provide opportunities for actors and performers to explore and discover their own creativity through their personal experiences, discoveries and awareness. In reaction to the existing social climate, DramaDogs, a Theater Company, was compelled to create a program that fosters communication and education among the members of our local community. In 2015, we began developing our Relevant Action program, which addresses current social issues through the medium of theatre. We’ve aligned our productions with various community-building organizations, such as the NEA Big Read program at the Santa Barbara Public Library (which promotes insight into relevant social issues through the power of a good book), The Ghostlight Project (a social-action initiative within the theatre community), and Climate Change Theatre Action (which highlights concepts of environmental awareness).
