With support from the California Arts Council, DHF will train youth from Kern, Fresno, Tulare and LA Counties in two pathways: Transformative Arts and Digital Media Pathways. DHF’s LYFE program will provide opportunities for youth to deepen their training through two modules repeating twice: Muralmaking and Podcast production.
The Dolores Huerta Foundation (DHF) established their youth programming in 2008. Today, it is an innovative youth leadership program that supports youth in discovering their own agency and passion while connecting with their cultural roots. The Liberated Youth for Empowerment (LYFE) program offers young people opportunities to develop a critical lens on history and systems of inequity. Through civic engagement, art, and media & tech pathways, youth are addressing the harmful and discriminatory practices and abuses faced by marginalized individuals and families living in the Central Valley. The core approaches of the program are meant to place youth voices at the center of conversations in the search for solutions while working towards wellness for the individual, for the family, and for the community. LYFE believes every young person is a potential activist, and has the skills and ability to be a leader in their community and beyond.
