This proposal is for creating a short documentary film on the struggles and resilience of farm working communities in Santa Maria. The funds will be used to execute a collaboration between community groups, youth artists, and a locally-based professional film team.
Our core programs are designed to showcase local artists and enhance the skills of youth and emerging talents. We provide comprehensive support to the artistic community, with a particular focus on Indigenous artists and their cultural traditions. Our initiatives include the youth group, Semillitas en Resistencia, as well as special exhibitions and events, such as “Celebrating International Women’s Day with Artivism.” Recently, we hosted the Lotería Art Exhibition, which featured 220 participants from our annual Lotería project in collaboration with the Ethnic and Gender Studies classes from the Santa Maria High School District. We celebrate a variety of artistic forms within our community, including craftsmanship, culinary traditions, and the performing, visual, and literary arts.
Our services extend to mentoring youth organizations that prioritize culture, leadership, and the arts. We assist in leadership development and manage funding for youth programs, including our pilot Summer Program, the Indigenous Youth Leadership Institute for Arts and Culture. Additionally, we provide a welcoming space for working artists and community groups to meet and collaborate in a culturally respectful environment.
