With support from the California Arts Council, CREATIVE HOUSE will be able to expand its role in the community by helping at-risk youth and urban adults through its art program. With the help of CAC, we can further our efforts in revitalizing the community through Art.
In November 2022, Millions of Californians overwhelmingly (about 65%) voted to pass Proposition 28, in what was supposed to be the largest investment in arts and music in U.S. history (about $1 billion), that would’ve bolster and create new arts programs in California’s schools after years of budget cuts and loss of programs. However, the success of this funding depended on proper implementation, something that hasn’t occurred, and has led to recent actions by the ACLU of Southern California and other organizations.
The Creative House Gallery core programs and services were developed to fill this arts education vacuum created by this legacy of lack of investment and budget cuts. Over the past 8 years The Creative House has established a community presence, offering programs that inspire creativity, empowerment, and wellness. Our Gallery stands out as a recognized community resource, where we provide FREE workshops and services to adults and children. Our arts education programs set out to redefine the learning experience, moving past traditional ways that art is taught to one that is more personal, trauma informed, culturally relevant, and inclusive.
Our core programs include art workshops for youth and adults, which include the following topics and techniques: (1) Fine art: acrylic and oil painting, sculpture, and illustration/drawing; and (2) Digital art: film, videography, photography, lighting and editing content. We also offer instruction on graphic design and the use of such platforms as Photoshop, InDesign, and Illustrator. We also
host events and curate other activities to expand arts programming, and provide a creative outlet to community members. We recognize that Art Access is critical to all communities, but prioritize those that are under-resourced, historically underserved, and consumed by poverty and crime; providing our workshops at No-Cost. The 3 hours workshops are conducted Sunday-Friday.
