With support from the California Arts Council, CONUNDRUM THEATRE COMPANY INC will be able to offer inclusive performing arts programming for a diverse group of youth, helping their mental health, physical wellness and well-being, while inspiring a new generation in the arts.
Conundrum Theatre Company operates as a community-based performing arts organization focused on high-quality production, accessibility, and youth development. Its mission is centered on providing a collaborative environment for both seasoned performers and newcomers, defined by three primary pillars:
1. Mainstage Productions: The cornerstone of Conundrum’s programming is its season of contemporary and classic musical theatre. These productions are designed to be “pro-am” in nature, blending professional-level standards with community inclusivity. Recent and upcoming repertoire includes challenging works such as Hair, Ragtime, and Falsettos. These shows often prioritize innovative staging and are staged in various local venues to engage the immediate community.
2. Conundrum Kids & Youth Education: Conundrum places a heavy emphasis on fostering the next generation of artists. The Conundrum Kids program includes summer camps and after-school intensives where students receive training in acting, vocals, and dance. A key feature is the youth production series, such as James and the Giant Peach Jr. and Into the Woods Jr., which allows youth performers to experience a full production cycle with professional mentorship.
3. New Work Development & Civic Engagement: Beyond standard licensing, the company actively supports the creation of new theatrical pieces, such as their annual New Works Festival. This service extends into the community through:
Strategic Partnerships: Collaborating with local venues like the Victory Theatre Center to stabilize the regional arts ecosystem.
Community Aid: Leveraging theatrical events for fundraising and social impact, often in alignment with local civic organizations.
Accessibility Initiatives: Implementing equity-focused goals to ensure that theatre remains an accessible medium for diverse audiences and participants regardless of socioeconomic status.
By balancing robust educational tracks with professional-caliber mainstage seasons, Conundrum serves as a vital hub for arts participation and community building.
