Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Connectopod, in partnership with The Village Family Services, will work with youth and Transitional Age Youth ages 14 – 24 who are experiencing or have recently experienced homelessness, bearing witness to their stories through media arts programming. Guided by media arts professionals, youth craft their own narratives through creative writing and art workshops. This is an expansion on a previous Connectopod project with The Village Family Services.

Organization Summary

Connectopod works with youth agtes 14 -24 to bring media arts and creative skills for a new economy. Connectopod scaffolds student during the creative process. Every participant works toward a tangible, public-facing project, which can include any one or combination of the following: documentary, podcast series, audio drama, mural, performance, short film

Completing projects builds discipline, confidence, and credibility. Participants leave with portfolio-ready work. They can say, with confidence, “I produced this,” “I directed this,” “I edited this.” This transforms how they show up in college admissions, job interviews, and community leadership. Over time, the unscripted documentation becomes a living archive of youth creativity in motion.

We make the invisible visible so that participants learn to observe and appreciate the labor, skill, and talent that go into media art production. Each project produces two outputs: the Unscripted Process and the Creative Artifact. The Unscripted Process is a documentary-style record of collaboration, iteration, and growth that captures how youth build something real. The Creative Artifact is the finished, public cultural work. Together, they create a sustainable storytelling engine. Connectopod demystifies production. Participants learn:
• Story structure
• Production workflows
• Editing systems
• Budgeting
• Distribution strategy
• Social media mechanics
• IP basics
• Professional etiquette
