With support from the California Arts Council, Coaxial will host four California-based artists in residence at our downtown LA exhibition and performance space. The artists, all women or non-binary artists of color, each work with video integrated into a larger multidisciplinary practice. For each artist’s one-week residency, the artist is given a generous fee, keys to the space, and access to all equipment with training provided by Coaxial’s co-directors.
Coaxial builds and activates a community of interdisciplinary and media artist through commissions, events, workshops, live performances and exhibitions. Coaxial supports a diverse community of media artists that range from interactive media to performance art by providing a facility to exhibit and explore new works.
Coaxial’s residencies, space, and technical support showcase underground artists whose works are often not exhibited in galleries as ephemeral media art is not conducive to the traditional gallery system. Coaxial provides artists space and equipment to realize works that otherwise would be out of reach, including analog video synthesizers, green screen, and a public exhibition space.
