Artists in Communities

Award Amount

$4,500.00

Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, CIRCUS BELLA will augment its goals of serving the community and furthering the art of circus performance by providing an Internship Program–a sustained artistic residency–for graduates of other circus education programs. Interns are paid a stipend, and they participate fully in show creation, rehearsals and performance. The program provides valuable experience to artists wishing to hone their skills while exploring how circus builds community.

Organization Summary

Circus Bella is classic circus reimagined for a modern world. Like the word Bella in our name, we celebrate the beauty of the circus art form and the beauty of what humans can do together. With gusto and daring, humanity and heart, we connect with our audiences by way of thrilling feats, engaging camaraderie and the heartbeat of a live band! Audiences are bedazzled, lifted up, and join in the celebration of the heart and soul of circus: community, joy, and achieving the impossible. We have a diverse and unique company, representing talents from all corners of the world and different backgrounds, perspectives and special artistic gifts. We feature aerialists, acrobats, family foot jugglers, clowns, and more – all performed to original music written and performed by a live six-piece band! Our annual programming consists of a summer series of FREE performances in parks and open spaces throughout California as well as a bi-annual big top tent production.
