The Center for World Music (CWM) delivers transformative arts programming across San Diego County through three flagship initiatives, each designed to serve a distinct segment of the community and showcase the performing arts of Asia, Africa, Latin America, Europe, and North America.

WORLD MUSIC CONCERTS
Global Stage brings the world’s music and dance traditions directly to the public through concerts and interactive workshops. Its annual Passport Concert Series features carefully curated performances by acclaimed California, national, and international artists, highlighting underrepresented musical traditions. Additionally, free events are held in intimate venues and in partnership with local institutions—such as libraries and public art programs—broadening reach and accessibility. Each year, Global Stage serves approximately 1,000 concert attendees and, through community partnerships, engages over 2,000 additional children and adults.

SCHOOLS PROGRAM
CWM’s largest initiative, World Music in the Schools, connects over 10,000 K-12 students annually with more than 25 professional teaching artists and 16 resident ensembles representing 20 distinct global music and dance traditions. Established in 1999, the program offers both long-term residencies (8–35 weeks) and one-time workshops or assemblies. Artists provide immersive, culturally authentic instruction, fostering cross-cultural understanding and appreciation among San Diego’s youth.

ACCESS TO ARTS FOR SENIORS
Access to Arts for Seniors addresses the barriers older adults face in affordable housing communities by bringing high-quality world music and dance experiences directly to them. The program delivers more than 50 events per quarter across 20 communities, reaching over 2,000 seniors annually. Through these accessible, community-based events, seniors enjoy meaningful cultural engagement that supports well-being and social connection.
