With support from the California Arts Council, Cashion Cultural Legacy will produce a series of ballet folklórico concerts. This series will include our annual autumn concert by Los Lupeños de San José, one of the oldest Mexican folk dance companies in California; a spring concert featuring our youth company, Los Lupeños Juvenil; and a late-spring free outdoor concert with performances by the adult and youth Los Lupeños companies, as well as local pan-American guest artists.
Cashion Cultural Legacy’s major programs are:
Los Lupeños de San José – This 55-year-old professional folklórico dance company has been a program of Cashion Cultural Legacy since 2014. In 2015, Los Lupeños expanded to include a youth company, Los Lupeños Juvenil.
Los Lupeños Academy – Los Lupeños Academy offers accessible public folklórico classes to all ages and at all levels, which teach students to dance and about dance’s connections to music, language, customs, culture, and history.
Artist Exchange – Cashion Cultural Legacy promotes artistic exchange between California and México by sponsoring and providing exchange scholarships for dancers, directors, and choreographers from both sides of the border.
Library, Publications, Archives – Cashion Cultural Legacy maintains an ongoing project to collect, curate, and publish materials that record the history of the Mexican folk dance movement in México and the United States. Currently in its nascent stage is the online on-demand publication of a series of educational books on Mexican folk dance.
