With funding from the California Arts Council, Cantare will provide in-school choral music residencies in 7 under-resourced Oakland schools. Over 32 weeks, TK-5 students in 95 classrooms will learn music celebrating their diverse cultures. VAPA-aligned curriculum will nurture socio-emotional development, creativity, and collaboration. Performances will empower young voices.
Cantare is an inter-generational non-profit choral music organization that engages participants from ages 4 to 85 from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We provide tuition-free choral music residencies to under-resourced K-12 children in the Oakland Unified School District, serving approximately 2,650 students through 95 weekly classrooms, 9 after-school youth choirs, a multilingual music program and annual 2-week summer camp. We are committed to removing barriers of access so that every child can have the opportunity to find, develop and share their unique voice.
