With support from the California Arts Council, Cantare will provide 385 underserved Oakland youth (grades 3–12) with tuition-free after school choral music classes and summer camp sessions. Students will learn and perform music from diverse cultures that reflect Oakland. Community performances empower youth and celebrate their voices.
Cantare is an inter-generational non-profit choral music organization that engages participants from ages 4 to 85 from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We provide tuition-free choral music residencies to under-resourced K-12 children in the Oakland Unified School District, serving approximately 2,650 students through 95 weekly classrooms, 9 after-school youth choirs, a multilingual music program and annual 2-week summer camp. We are committed to removing barriers of access so that every child can have the opportunity to find, develop and share their unique voice.
