With funding from the California Arts Council, Cantare Con Vivo will provide school day choral music residencies at 4 Title One Oakland schools in under resourced neighborhoods. Over 32 weeks, TK-5 students in 70 classrooms will learn and perform music from diverse cultures that reflect Oakland. Our VAPA-aligned curriculum emphasizes social and emotional development and nurtures creativity, collaboration and respect. Community performances empower youth to develop and share their voices.
Cantare is an inter-generational non-profit choral music organization that engages participants from ages 4 to 85 from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We provide tuition-free choral music residencies to under-resourced K-12 children in the Oakland Unified School District, serving approximately 2,650 students through 95 weekly classrooms, 9 after-school youth choirs, a multilingual music program and annual 2-week summer camp. We are committed to removing barriers of access so that every child can have the opportunity to find, develop and share their unique voice.
