With support from the California Arts Council, Cantare Con Vivo will provide 210 underserved Oakland youth (grades 3–12) with tuition-free, choral music classes & performance opportunities. Over 32 weeks, students in six choirs will learn and perform music from diverse cultures and styles that reflect Oakland. Our VAPA-aligned curriculum emphasizes social and emotional development. Community performances empower youth to find, develop and celebrate their individual and collective voices.
Cantare is an inter-generational non-profit choral music organization that engages participants from ages 4 to 85 from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We provide tuition-free choral music residencies to under-resourced K-12 children in the Oakland Unified School District, serving approximately 2,650 students through 95 weekly classrooms, 9 after-school youth choirs, a multilingual music program and annual 2-week summer camp. We are committed to removing barriers of access so that every child can have the opportunity to find, develop and share their unique voice.
