With support from the California Arts Council, Cantare Con Vivo will provide 210 underserved Oakland youth, grades 3–12, with tuition-free, in-depth choral music classes and performance opportunities through six choirs. Through weekly rehearsals over 32-week residencies, students will learn and perform VAPA-aligned music skills, sing music from diverse cultures and styles and gain self-confidence and poise through community performances. Summer program will rehearse daily for two weeks.
Cantare is an inter-generational non-profit choral music organization that engages participants from ages 4 to 85 from Alameda and Contra Costa counties. We provide tuition-free choral music residencies to under-resourced K-12 children in the Oakland Unified School District, serving approximately 2,650 students through 95 weekly classrooms, 9 after-school youth choirs, a multilingual music program and annual 2-week summer camp. We are committed to removing barriers of access so that every child can have the opportunity to find, develop and share their unique voice.
