With support from the California Arts Council, CALIFORNIA MUSIC CENTER will engage consultant Lisa Salomon, Salomon Strategic Development, to develop and facilitate a strategic retreat to prepare CMC’s board and staff for transition from a founder-led organization and build readiness for a strategic planning process. The project will result in a timeline and road map to address critical issues such as succession planning, sustainability, and revisiting CMC’s 35-year legacy and vision.
One of the most prestigious classical music competitions in the world, The Klein is recognized for the high caliber of the contestants, its unique, nurturing environment, and a commitment to the commissioning of new works. CMC features its laureates in a Bay Area chamber concert season and guest appearances with regional orchestras.
We serve the next generation of classical string players through the gateway of the Klein: itis the entry point for a sustained relationship with the artists, who largely go on to distinguished careers. Participation in competitions can be considered an essential part of a musician’s training, and a source of support for artists, honing goal-setting, networking, audition and performance skills, and encouraging focus and resiliency.
Previous prizewinners have returned to the Klein to serve on the board, perform, mentor, and to serve on the competition panel, awarding prizes to the next generation of up-and-coming young artists. Our outreach activities feature our laureates, who introduce often underserved young people to the joy of making and enjoying live music. These programs are taken directly to young audiences in schools and community centers.
