With support from the California Arts Council, California Institute of the Arts’ Community Arts Partnership (CAP) program will provide free, high quality beginning and advanced music instruction to high school students as a part of the CAP Summer Arts (CAPSA) programs. CalArts alumni artist instructors will lead four weeks of world music instruction (6 hours/day; 5 days/week) to approximately 60 music students from underserved neighborhoods throughout Los Angeles County.
CalArts comprises three entities. As an internationally recognized school for the performing and visual arts–film, theater, art, dance, music and writing–the CalArts artistic philosophy places an emphasis on an exploration of new paths beyond conventional boundaries. REDCAT (Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater), a state-of-the-art producing, presenting and exhibiting venue in downtown Los Angeles, fulfills a unique niche in the Southern California cultural ecology by giving artists in many disciplines the support and infrastructure they need to create their finest work and share it with local, national and international audiences. CalArts’ Community Arts Partnership (CAP), a network of collaborative partnerships, links the Institute with more than 45 schools, community centers and social service agencies in order to provide free arts education to youth.
