Collaborative exhibition workshops will also be provided in partnership with the South Gate Museum & Art Gallery.

Organization Summary

Our pedagogy is to implement an interdisciplinary creative teaching philosophy rooted in the Reggio Emilia approach, and process-based art experiences. The Reggio Emilia approach is defined as a philosophy which values the child as central to their own learning, as children are able to pursue their own interests, and revisit and build upon ideas at their own pace. This pedagogy is focused on ensuring art is treated as an expression of the child’s current understanding, rather than a representation of an object. This perspective makes art a tool for creating meaning to help children build their ideas, thoughts, theories, and perspectives and to construct a new understanding of the subject. Our teaching artists design curriculum to create learning experiences that guide the conversation to promote authentic thinking, inclusivity, creativity, and problem solving which are all necessary, critical life skills needed in the STEAM fields. Our participants will experience the warmth, beauty, and passion of arts education through the following developmental areas:
Social and emotional development – the children relax, focus, feel successful and are allowed to express their feelings
Language and literacy development – Children may choose to discuss their art and add text to it (on their own or by dictating to a teacher)
Cognitive development – Children compare, predict, plan, design, and problem solve
Physical development – Children use small motor skills to paint, write, glue, use clay, and make collages.
At the conclusion of our program(s), student learning is assessed and evaluated.
