Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, Brightwork newmusic will partially fund salaries for its Executive Director and Artistic Director, and replenish its Tuesdays @ Monk Space Artists Fund which ensures that performers on the monthly concert series are paid a fair concert fee regardless of ticket sales.

Organization Summary

We accomplish our mission through four different program areas. Brightwork Ensemble is comprised of Grammy-winning and Grammy-nominated musicians who are fluent in many musical styles and perform and record actively across southern California and beyond. The ensemble is frequently engaged by composers to give world premieres and is presented by local venues and series to bring its unique blend of exquisite artistry, innovative programming and sense of fun. Our monthly concert series, Tuesdays @ Monk Space presents cutting-edge works by both established and emerging artists in a funky former speakeasy in the heart of Koreatown. Project Beacon is our educational arm, bringing Brightwork ensemble to sit in residence at colleges, universities, youth orchestras, and community music programs to mentor the next generation of musical artists. Project Beacon also includes the High School Composer Initiative, our signature effort to increase diversity and remove historic barriers to achievement for the next generation of composers. In 2023 we launched Brightwork Digital, a way for Brightwork Ensemble and collaborators to release digital content including audio singles, albums, and professionally produced videos.
