With support from the California Arts Council, Bernard Brown/bbmoves will stabilize and grow our administrative infrastructure, provide professional development for administrative and creative personnel, and will assist in producing the “Processing Sugar Notes” project, an evening-length performance project with an anticipated premiere in 2020-21, aims to blend dance and health advocacy through the lens of racial justice.
Bernard Brown/bbmoves aspires to be a beacon for synthesization of dance creation, performance and education that prioritizes the stories of people of African Diaspora. We accomplish this through: Artistic collaboration through research, investigation and refinement; Employing dance artivism (art + activism) as the vehicle to shift cultural and socio-economic imbalances; Nurturing artivists from novice to professional by providing access through dance education and mentorship; Building community through strategic partnerships; Inspiring audiences to strengthen community through artivism. Recently developed programming: Public performances, locally, regionally and nationally; Low-cost Afro-Contemporary Community Classes in the Greater Los Angeles area; Community Partnerships with Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc., MA Series Arts, Audobon Middle School and Lula Washington Dance Theatre; providing to mentorship to aspiring artists of color specifically, and to all who seek mentorship.
