Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, JULIA MORGAN CENTER FOR THE ARTS INC dba Berkeley Playhouse’s Riffs program provides an exceptional life experience through quality engagement with the performing arts for students in underserved populations throughout the East Bay. The Riffs is highly collaborative in nature; professional teaching artists and musicians work alongside students to equip and empower them to create, produce, and perform contemporary pieces in a show choir style format.

Organization Summary

Berkeley Playhouse produces intelligent, relevant, and soul-stirring theater. We bring together performers and audiences of all ages; we also offer educational programs through our conservatory programming. We provide classes, camps and performance training in acting, singing, dancing, and technical theatre. Children in our programs receive training from the best Bay Area teaching artists – many of them directors or performers in our Professional Season productions.
Professional Season
• Five high-quality productions each season, most running for six weekends
• Outreach programs to schools and community organizations including value tickets, and community partner nights, and education scholarship & financial aid program
