Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, BAY AREA CHILDREN’S THEATRE will provide arts access for over 30,000 students through our 2018-2019 Student Matinee program. Grant funding will allow students from Bay Area schools serving low-income communities that might not otherwise have access to arts programming to attend live theatrical performances for free. We specialize in shows based on children’s literature and believe every child deserves the right to experience the arts.

Organization Summary

BACT provides the following core programs:

MAINSTAGE PRODUCTIONS (“Onstage”): Introduce children to the joy of theatre and literature by bringing great children’s books to life onstage through productions designed especially for young audiences featuring adult actors.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH: BACT offers several outreach programs to provide arts access to as diverse and inclusive a community as possible, including Student Matinees, arts in schools programs, and touring productions.

MUSICAL THEATRE EDUCATION (“Academy”): After-school classes and camps, a number of which are offered through civic partnerships, give children ages 4 and up opportunities to learn the art and craft of theatre, gain performance skills, build self-confidence, and shine as part of a team.
