Our Main Gallery supports the work of Bay Area-based, independent curators as they organize thematically relevant exhibitions that introduce globally exhibiting artists to local audiences, bringing them into dialogue with early-career artists and local artists. We work with our advisory committee and past curators to identify guest curators with strong artistic visions, roots in the Bay Area, and connections to international communities. We provide each curator with resources, including a curator honorarium of $5,000 and an exhibition + public programming budget of $12,000, and collaborate closely with them to support their vision, enabling them to invite artists to take creative risks, explore new ideas, and create works across disciplines, including non-object-based works and site-specific installations. Each artist is paid a base honorarium of $500, and payments increase to reflect material costs, new commissions, and travel. We acknowledge that local curators play a central role in holding together the ecosystem for artists in the region and hope to help sustain their practices.

/room/ is the project space adjacent to our Main Gallery dedicated to exhibiting works by local, emerging artists selected from annual open calls by jurors. Selected artists are invited to exhibit experimental solo projects developed collaboratively from their submitted proposals. /room/ creates a supportive onramp for artists earlier in their careers by offering them a platform to exhibit their work parallel to more established artists on view in the Main Gallery, paying them an honorarium ($500), material and public programming budget ($1,250), and exposing their work to local arts professionals through our guest juror system. Slash staff offers administrative and technical support, fostering each artist’s creative and professional growth.

Our exhibitions are accompanied by public programs—from workshops and lectures to performances—organized with curators and artists, often presented in partnership with local organizations to draw audiences from across the Bay Area.
