With support from the California Arts Council, the Oakland Asian Cultural Center (OACC) will partner with playwright Bonnie Wai-Lee Kwong (Artist in Residence and lead artist) in collaboration with Cleavon Smith. Local youth will assist in interviews to shape the narrative of an original play as they address “What makes Oakland home?” and “Whose voices are heard?” The project will be supplemented by an exhibit and panel discussion about the stories revealed and the creative process.
Before the pandemic, we welcomed 25,000+ guests each year to our center through affordable or no-cost, unique, and easily accessible multi-ethnic and multidisciplinary art and cultural programs. Programs include:
(1) Artist in Residence; (2) Classes/Workshops/Seminars; (3) Exhibitions; (4) Festivals; (5) Performances and Other Special Events; (6) School Tours & Community Outreach
