Arts Education - Artists in Schools

Award Amount

$19,000.00

Project Description

With support from the California Arts Council, the American Youth Symphony will fund the Share-A-Stand music mentoring program, which provides instruction and inspiration to young musicians in low-income public schools. This program ensures that participants receive a well-rounded education and opportunities to be creative thinkers and promotes life skills such as critical thinking, problem solving, collaboration and positive self-expression through the arts.

Organization Summary

AYS’ principal activities are the eight symphonic and chamber music concerts presented each season and the musician training and audience development related to these concerts. We present these concerts at free or significantly reduced admission in world-class concert halls in Los Angeles and feature standard classical and contemporary repertoire, an annual live-to-picture film concert, chamber music performance, and an all-ages family concert. By gifting our community with remarkable concerts at world-class venues, we remain committed to creating access and opportunity for everyone to experience the inspiration of this beautiful art form. Our Share-A-Stand program is a responsive in-school music education program tailored to provide music education to students grades 6th-8th at underserved LAUSD public middle schools by bringing in AYS musicians to provide mentorship while simultaneously supporting the learning objectives of the music teachers with regard to state standards in music.
