With support from the California Arts Council, AFRICAN ARTS ACADEMY will finally get its crucial staff retention issue under control and run with no interruptions. Art in our program is provided as an uplifting and empowering cultural tool, thus requiring the need to keep specialized staff around.
The African Arts Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving African cultural heritage through performing arts and art education, will establish a cutting-edge educational institution focused on the principles of arts and crafts originating in Africa and the African diaspora. The academy will offer workshops, seminars, and programs to empower the black community. The objective of African Arts Academy is twofold: to alter the global perception of Africa and to transform the viewpoint of individuals of African heritage. This is achieved by creating an alternative narrative that emphasizes the aesthetic appeal and cultural significance of African art. Through collaboration with artists of African ancestry, we impart the significance of the artistic output of the African diaspora, which has made a beneficial impact on the cultural advancement and economic expansion of nations globally. The African Arts Academy aims to serve as a conduit between ancient wisdom and the contemporary world by leveraging new technology, facilitating the convergence of innovation and tradition. The Executive and artistic Director Leye Martin “Fely Tchaco” will work hard to increase the organization’s capacity building through outreach and expand our funding base and help the effectiveness of our Board of Directors and staff. We, plan on supporting and work with qualified artists of African descent by hiring them for our education and performing arts programs that aspire to increase appreciation and respect among the general population for these contemporary and traditional African art forms, and especially for African Americans, who are interested in re-connecting to their African roots through our programs and services. Although we encourage the participation of African American, we are not limited to just one community, we are open to anyone wanting to learn and enjoy the African arts experience.
