Project Description
With CAC support, Abhinaya will stage 2 performances of its 40th Anniversary concert at San Jose’s 500-seat Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater in April 2020. This concert will present some of the outstanding works in Abhinaya’s repertoire created by Artistic Director Mythili Kumar and Choreographer Rasika Kumar and performed by the Abhinaya Dance Company in previous years. The concert will present Indian American artists and Indian music and dance forms to a predominantly Indian American audience.
Organization Summary
Abhinaya Dance Company’s programs and services are primarily directed at Silicon Valley’s 160,000 Indian American residents. Since 1991, the Company’s season concerts in San Jose have provided Silicon Valley’s dance-going public access to professional-quality productions of classical Indian dance. Over the years we have produced more than 50 dance concerts featuring Artistic Director Mythili Kumar’s original choreography, and approximately 10 concerts featuring collaborations with other creative and performing artists.
Since 1980, our instructional program consists of over 15 weekly dance classes conducted throughout the year that serve almost 65 children ages 6 to 18 and that perpetuate the performance of classical South Indian dance.
Abhinaya Dance Company will be celebrating its 45th anniversary on August 3, 2025 with over 60 artists performing, both alumni and current students trained at Abhinaya.
