WHO WE ARE
Shotgun Players is a company of artists determined to create bold, relevant, affordable theatre that inspires and challenges audiences and artists alike to re-examine our lives, our community, and the ever-changing world around us. We are committed to a welcoming and inclusive work culture and audience experience where everyone who walks through our doors feels a deep sense of belonging. We center our values in all that we do and hold ourselves accountable with rigorous, comprehensive, and regular reviews of policies, procedures, and staff. Getting it “right” is not a box we can check. It’s a daily practice and we are all here for that journey! We invite applicants to review our statement of values, our community agreements, and our anti-racism statement.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Shotgun is open to the public with mainstage plays most Wednesday–Sunday, as well as some Monday and Tuesday evenings for readings and other events. We have programming 38–40 weeks per year. The regular nightly front of house (“FOH”) team is one box office manager, one house manager, and two concessionaires. The FOH team shares the responsibility of opening and closing the theater for performances, ensuring lobby and house cleanliness, distributing tickets, serving concessions, and addressing patron concerns as they arise. The ideal front of house staff member is someone with strong customer service skills, a passion for theater and the performing arts, enjoys interacting with patrons, is comfortable with giving public announcements, and has an impeccable eye for detail as the position includes managing a number of moving parts in a fast-paced environment.
FOH team members are a group who look forward to engaging with our community: theater-goers who are thrilled to enter our spaces for a unique art experience, and who arrive ready to celebrate theater. As with many service jobs, Shotgun Players recognizes the emotional labor inherent in front of house positions, and commits to providing training and toolkits for patron interactions, fair compensation for that labor, as well as a clear process for reporting inappropriate patron behavior. While our FOH team does have a responsibility to communicate with disgruntled or distressed patrons, major emotional or medical support is not part of the job. For any patron who needs more than a glass of water, please either refer them to Shotgun executive staff or a licensed medical provider. Emergency medical procedures and paperwork for submitting grievances will be covered in training.
