O’Hanlon Center for the Arts
Juried by Dave Getz
Exhibition dates: February 3 – 26, 2026
Postcard artwork: “Moon Dance” by Jennifer Fearon
DESCRIPTION
*Art never happens in isolation, but within a larger cultural and creative context. Music accompanies my process as a constant presence, shaping mood and attention; in Moondance, the title honors this unseen collaborator.
Many works of art are inspired by music. Do you create while listening to music and is the work influenced by what you hear? For this exhibition we are interested in art that is informed by music.
“Kandinsky, Klee, Miró and Pollock are notable examples of painters who have painted music, using color, form and brushstrokes to evoke the rhythms and melodies of sound. Kandinsky was deeply influenced by music and believed that painting and music were closely related forms of expression.” Excerpt from Romel Madray Jan. 2023 Blog
“Early on I thought that everyone could see sound. A shape and color – a wabbly circle, blackberry purple, for D. I only adjusted the shape I saw, then locked into the correct decibels.” From the book “Seeing Music” by Ben Shattuck
THIS IS AN IN-PERSON /IN-GALLERY SHOW ONLY
