Museum Educator (Group Visits)
Part-Time /Non-Exempt

The Japanese American National Museum, based in the historic Little Tokyo neighborhood in downtown Los Angeles, is preparing to reopen following a closure for renovation of its Pavilion building. JANM is hiring three Museum Educators to join the Education unit to facilitate group learning experiences and activities for JANM’s Onsite School (grades 1-12) and Group Visits (college, adult, seniors) programs. The position works collaboratively with Education staff and volunteers to fulfill institutional priorities, the Education Unit Teaching Philosophy, and On-Site School Visit Learning Objectives. Requires familiarity with object-based teaching; anti-bias and anti-racist teaching must be promoted.

Bachelor’s degree in Museum Studies, Arts Education, or Asian American Studies preferred. Minimum 1 year experience working in an education environment with students. Experience in education, public speaking, and customer service in a museum is preferred. Requires ability to remain flexible and adjust to changing student and visitor needs. Understanding of basic principles of volunteer management is beneficial. Knowledge of Japanese American history and culture desired and familiarity with the Little Tokyo community is beneficial.

Proficiency with MS Office and Google Workspace. Position is scheduled on-site, Tuesday – Friday, 9:00am to 2:00pm for an average of 18 hours a week with the opportunity for additional late afternoon, evening and weekend shifts as tours are scheduled.
