The City of Paramount is seeking applications from artists for public art opportunity — 3 murals on the exterior of a 100-year-old building. This is a public art project outside the Hay Tree Public Market project now under construction at 16493 Paramount Blvd. Hay Tree Public Market is a food hall inside a building primarily built in 1926. The building is immediately adjacent to the Hay Tree, California Historic Landmark No. 1038. The building will also feature a Paramount City Museum when complete in early 2027.
This opportunity is open to experienced artists based nearby or willing to travel to the City of Paramount. All expenses, including, materials, lodging, transportation, and food are included in the budget.
The project budget is based on a rate of $35 per square foot of mural area. Each mural section is anticipated to be approximately 10 feet high by 30 feet wide, or approximately 300 square feet. Based on these estimated dimensions, compensation would be approximately $10,500 per mural, for an estimated total project budget of $31,500 for all three murals.
Application requirements are listed on the Call for Artists on the City of Paramount’s Public Art Program page at https://www.paramountcity.gov/government/departments/planning-and-building/planning/public-art/.
The application deadline is Friday, October 30, 2026.
