beautifulPB is seeking a San Diego County-based mural artist to design and lead the creation of a community-painted, in-street mural at the entrance to the Rose Creek bike path and Mike Gotch Memorial Bridge in Mission Bay Park (32.798450, -117.219618), covering an area of up to 70 x 150ft. The selected artist will receive a stipend of $6,000 for designing the mural and helping oversee the community painting event. Paint and supplies for the event will be provided separately.
This project will make this important bicycle and pedestrian connection easier to find while creating a more welcoming entrance to Mission Bay Park. The mural should incorporate wayfinding elements, and reflect the area’s local wildlife, native habitat, and ecological identity.
The selected artist will:
-Develop the mural design.
-Create a paint-by-numbers-style plan that enables community members to help paint the mural.
-Help oversee a community mural-painting event.
-Work with Kumeyaay community members and beautifulPB to seek design feedback during the development process.
Local artists with experience in public art, community engagement, and large-scale mural projects are encouraged to apply. Before submitting an application, please review the City of San Diego’s Mural Toolkit and specific guidelines for murals in the public right of way. All applicants must meet the City of San Diego’s definition of an artist.
Please submit applications by November 1, 2026 for consideration. An artist will be selected by a committee of project coordinators and notified by December 1, 2026.
