Position Summary
The Spring Camp Teaching Artist at ICA San Diego leads art camps at our location in Encinitas, guiding students through art-making activities to explore varied topics. Through weeklong project-based lessons, the Spring Camp Teaching Artist fosters creativity, self-expression, and the development of new skills, culminating in a weekly showcase of camper’s work.
The Spring Camp Teaching Artist reports to the Education Manager.
Time Frame and Location
ICA San Diego Spring Camp will take place from March 30 – April 3, 2026 at our ICA North location in Encinitas (1578 S El Camino Real, Encinitas, CA 92024).
Responsibilities
● Plan a weeklong curriculum, create detailed lesson plans with supply lists and generate project samples. Submit lesson plans and sample projects to the Education Manager.
● Act as a Camp Instructor for a specified age group at ICA San Diego, leading students in a variety of projects, discussions and activities related to the week’s theme
● Adapt lesson plans as needed to improve the camper experience or accommodate individual campers.
● Organize and store completed artwork in preparation for the art show.
● Coordinate with camp assistants, interns and volunteers as needed.
● Assist and coordinate the student art showcase at the end of each week.
● Complete an evaluation at the end of camp.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Demonstrated knowledge of classroom management
● Ability to teach in a fast paced environment to different grade levels
● Ability to collaborate effectively with other educators and ICA staff
● Strong working knowledge of Google Suite
● Strong customer service and teamwork experience
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
● Experience teaching people varying learning styles and abilities
● Bilingual (Spanish/English)
Required Education and Experience
● Some higher education in Art History, Studio Art, or related field
● Experience with group instruction and/or classroom management
Preferred Education and Experience
● Bachelor’s degree in Art Studio, Art Education or related field
● Experience teaching artmaking
● Experience in traditional classroom settings
Work Environment and Physical Demands
The Spring Camp Teaching Artist will work at ICA North in Encinitas. Lifting, frequent standing, bending, kneeling, and other physical movement may be required. Any reasonable accommodations needed to perform the essential functions of this role should be communicated to the HR & Operations Manager.
Travel
No travel will be required of this position.

Compensation
Hourly rate is $35. A typical shift is Monday – Friday 8:30AM – 2:30PM. Additional hours for training and preparation may be required.
