With support from the California Arts Council, EL TEATRO DE LA TIERRA will provide arts education services over a period of two years, free of charge for intergenerational low-income participants in Fresno and will begin a pilot project to serve farmworker families in Huron, CA. Using Mexican, Latin American & American Folklore, Nuevo Canto/New Song, and contemporary styles, the artist/instructors will train beginners, intermediate, and advanced participants how to play the guitar or ukulele, and sing. When ready the participants will perform in the community with Generaciones Music Project.
Using Latin American & American Folklore we train participants of all backgrounds and ages in the basic fundamentals of music and drama to the point where she or he can execute a song or a dramatic interlude with sufficient skill to perform. Open to beginners, intermediate, and advanced participants, all programming is accessible to disabled persons. Music: intermediate and advanced participants form the intergenerational ensemble Generaciones; Generaciones performs throughout the community for a variety of organizations, cultural events, and concerts. Theater participants study and put together shows by Teatro Inmigrante – Immigrant Theater and its director Agustin Lira, through year-long projects that culminate in public performances.
