With support from the California Arts Council, FREEDOM BAND FOUNDATION OF LOS ANGELES will support the growth of our band programs, which have expanded from 2 to 3, our member growth since live rehearsals and performances became viable, and programming growth under new artistic direction. We have paid staff, rental fees for rehearsal and storage, and venue fees for our performances which will be paid through use of these funds.
GFBLA’s core program is the ninety-member concert band, which puts on two concerts per year in addition to several performances at parades and other events serving the LGBTQ+ community. A few of our recent accomplishments include our 40th anniversary concert where we collaborated with world-renowned artists such as Donald Perry, Jadine Louie, and Dean McDowell and local LGBTQ+ choir West Coast Singers, a concert entitled “The Great Outdoors” consisting of music inspired by travel, and a concert entitled “Family Album 2” which featured music from LGBTQ+ composers. GFBLA also performed at the “Models of Pride” event at the LA LGBT Center.
In addition to the concert band, GFBLA has a marching band that plays at the annual LA Pride Parade and other area pride parades.
