With Support from the California Arts Council Rhythm Arts Alliance will be able to support salaries for our Project Leader, Assistant Project Leader, Program Director and Teaching Artists so they can continue to plan and deliver programming, and funds will also support our office rent and additional operational costs.
School Programs: RAA provides inclusive, healing-centered cultural education through programs like “Drum, Dance and Connection” for youth on the spectrum and year-long residencies at McKinley Elementary in Compton. These workshops integrate social skills with West African arts, reaching hundreds of students annually.
Probation Programs: Our “Drum Council Workshops” serve over 100 system-impacted youth in LA County probation camps. We offer emotional release and nervous system awareness through rhythm, centering the needs of youth of color navigating the justice system.
Community Wellness: Through our annual African Diaspora Community Festival and weekly drum circles in Leimert Park, we foster unity and cultural pride. These programs serve over 500 community members, providing a restorative space for families and underserved youth at risk of the school-to-prison pipeline.
Professional Training: In partnership with the LA County Department of Arts and Culture, we train over 1,500 educators and mental health professionals annually in somatic self-soothing and healing-centered teaching methods.
